Summer Around the Corner

Welcome back to another installment of The Urban Word with yours truly RayhemTheDream!!

In the NBA currently the Conference finals are under way with both the Miami Heat and the Spurs leading in their match-ups. Serge Ibaka has made a miraculous comeback and will most likely be available for the remainder of the playoffs. As far as coaches go congratulations to the Warriors new head coach Steve Kerr. Also again congrats to Stan Van Gundy who was named both coach and president of basketball operations for the Detroit Pistons. Currently the candidates for the New York Knicks coaching gig remain to be Mark Jackson, Derek Fisher, and Rick Fox whose name was recently added to the list. Kevin Love's next destination is still unknown however he's publicly stated his desire to"Go to a team that can win a championship now." In other news the Cleveland Cavaliers have decided not to grant Kyrie Irving a max contract for the next 4-5 years. Although Kyrie has been an All-Star in 2 of 3 seasons including winning the games MVP award this year, he still has yet to reach the playoffs or play any solid defense. This is not good for a former first round draft pick. Unless King James decides to leave South Beach for Ohio, Uncle Drew may soon leave the city, which is ok considering they still have the #1 pick in this June's Draft. Wiggins, Irving, and James???  The NBA world will become very interesting come July 1st.

In Hip Hop News Wiz Khalifa was arrested for Marijuana possession recently but released the next day. Kanye West recently married his fiancee and the mother of his daughter Kim Kardashian in Italy recently. Meek Mill was recently spotted counting cash on a private jet and speaking about the infamous instagram account called fakewatchbusta that has been exposing celebs rocking fake time pieces. Meek however shops with shyne jewelry that's located in Philadelphia. Troy Ave has been buzzing in the streets following his interview with Elliot Wilson which can be seen below. Troy Ave will be the first unsigned artist to headline Summer Jam and since he's already getting money the MC has stated there's no need to rush into a deal that doesn't meet his standards.

Grind Time

Congratulations to Michael Carter-Williams of the Philadelphia 76ers on winning rookie of the year and Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder on capturing his first league MVP award. These two players have had great seasons with Durant's being historical and epic to watch. LeBron James, last season's MVP, has stated that KD was more than deserving of the award this year and that he's played MVP caliber basketball. Last night both road teams capture wins in the Conference semifinals as Washington beat Indiana by 6 while the Clippers blew out the Thunder with a final score of 122-105. Clippers guard Chris Paul made 8 straight 3 pointers and 5 straight within the first 6 minutes of game play. Paul is currently nursing a number of injuries, however he has stated that this season is do or die for the Clippers. The Indiana Pacers seem to have lost that fight that carried them to a Game 7 win over the Hawks in the opening round of the playoffs. The Wizards dominated the Pacers early in Game 1 and seemed to have set the tone for the series as well. The Miami Heat take on the Brooklyn Nets tonight in South Beach while the San Antonio Spurs host the Portland Trailblazers at the AT&T Center.

Michael Carter-Williams

In recent news Manny Pacquiao has stated that he would be open to a fight with Adrien Broner possibly in September of 2014. Floyd Mayweather Jr seems to be set on fighting up and coming undefeated welterweight Keith Thurman in September, which could possibly be Mayweather's last fight. While most boxing fans want to see Floyd reach 50 wins they feel that it would mean at least 3 fights next year as the champ will turn 38 in February and there doesn't seem to be enough legitimate contenders to garner a challenge for Floyd. Miguel Cotto has hinted at another big career fight for him against Canelo Alvarez or Erislandy Lara later this year if possible. Amir Khan has his sights set on a career fight that will serve as a comeback for him, he has stated that he wishes to face Marcos Maidana again with the belief that he'll again be victorious and possibly capture the knockout this time around. Danny Garcia seems to be the man with the plan in the 140lb weight class and everyone want to see him face off against Lucas Mattyse again and Adrien Broner in a title fight.

As far as music goes the summer is coming which means Summer Jam 2014 featuring NY's very own Troy Ave among a number of other prominent artists. Over the summer I plan on releasing what I'm calling a throwback mixtape in the sense that it's made using beats that are hot at the time. Sure the lyrics are original, however the beats are among the most known at that particular time in hip hop. My mixtape's format will be similar to that of Lil Wayne's Infamous "No Ceilings" mixtape.
By the Way what do you guys think of this being the new UrbanWord Logo??????

It Ain't Summer, But The Block Is Hot!!

So the NBA playoffs have just become that much more interesting with several series heading to Game 7. The Warriors captured a 100-99 win to punch their ticket to a Game 7 showdown in Los Angeles on Saturday May 3rd. The Memphis Grizzlies were blown out by the Thunder in Game 6 and will be subsequently missing their star forward Zach Randolph due to him being suspended for striking Thunder Center Steven Adams in the Jaw. Personally I think the Houston Rockets will capture a win tonight and force a Game 7 in H-Town. In the same sense I believe that the Brooklyn Nets will win Game 6 in Brooklyn tonight to force a Game 7 in Toronto. Congratulations to the Wizards and the Heat for finishing out their series in tremendous fashions. In recent news it has been established that the front runner for purchasing the Los Angeles Clippers is Sean "Diddy" Combs. There were rumors that Oprah Winfrey was interested in the team, however sources close to Diddy have stated that he's shown "extremely high interest" in the team.

Boxing fans should begin to rejoice as there will be a star studded line up for the Main event fight on May 3rd featuring Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana. Amir Khan and Adrien Broner will be two superstars featured in two separate fights on this Super Undercard. Personally I appreciate Floyd Mayweather's Brand due the fact that the last big Floyd Mayweather fight undercard featured Lucas Mattyse and Danny Garcia in a superfight that could have garnered it's own Pay-Per View recognition. Regardless of the May 3rd outcome, Floyd Mayweather plans to fight his final bout in September of 2014 against an unnamed opponent. Many boxing fans are wishing to see Manny Pacquiao be that opponent, however I believe the likelihood of something like this is extremely low at this point and time.  The moment has come for these two men.

As far as the music world goes there was recently a song released by Michael Jackson ft. Justin Timberlake. Keyshia Cole also released a single entitled "Rick James", which features a chorus heavily based off of his "I'm Rick James Bitch" catchphrases. Alot of underground artists such as JoeyBadass may be getting signed to major record labels this year so be on the lookout. Big Shoutout to Jadakiss and Styles P on the grand opening of Juices For Life

That's all for this installment so enjoy the first weekend in May and as always email me @ mcorbin1214@gmail.com, text me 610-739-8934, and add me on social media @RayhemTheDream.

In Case You Didn't Know

So although I recently posted on my blog I felt that there were a few secrets that I should let those who support me in on. The first secret is that Carmelo Anthony will be returning to the New York Knicks for the 2014-2015 season. The only thing possible for Melo at this point would be teaming up with Dwight Howard and James Harden, where Oscar Robertson believes he will fit perfectly. If Melo's ultimate goal is to still win a championship, then the choice would seem to be a no brainer right?  The second secret is that Kevin Love will be coming to the Knicks as well and they will get rid of Tyson Chandler, Raymond Felton, and  Jeremy Tyler unfortunately. If Carmelo Anthony leaves the Knicks however, Kevin Love is surely headed to the Los Angeles Lakers and Phil Jackson will continue bringing in Veterans to NY such as Lamar Odom and Metta World Peace. LeBron James and the Big 3 will only stay together if they complete the three-peat. If the Heat don't win an NBA championship this year the Chicago Bulls or the Cleveland Cavaliers will be the front-runners in the LeBron James sweepstakes. The Los Angeles Lakers will becoming a playoff team in the West once again this year and Kobe Bryant will be back and average roughly 25 ppg this upcoming season. Kevin Garnett is retiring, spoiler alert, and as you guys know so is Derek Fisher. Blake Griffin and Chris Paul will give this experiment another season following this one to win an NBA championship and if that fails, Blake Griffin will most likely become a Boston Celtic. My final secrets are Deron Williams will play spectacularly next season, The Phoenix Suns will be a contender next season, Paul Pierce is retiring in another two years, Steve Nash is retiring, and Steve Kerr will be the Knicks head coach next season

Back At It

Yoooooo... Back with the newest installment of the UrbanWord ladies and gentlemen. With the NBA playoffs underway I got Houston, Los Angeles, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Miami, Brooklyn, Indiana, and Chicago leaving the first round with wins and advancing to the semifinals. Lamarcus Aldridge turned in one of the best games by a Trailblazer in Franchise history with Lillard adding 31 in his playoff debut. Kemba Walker and John Wall also turned in great playoff debuts with Wall's ending in a victory and the achievement of capturing home court in the series. The semifinals is where things get interesting for me, because the top 4 teams as far as season play battle it out and out west I see alot of dogfights while in the East the only dogfight I see is Miami V.S. Brooklyn in the 2nd round.

In the world of music I personally will be dropping a mix tape with Church hill who is an unsigned rapper who currently resides in Philadelphia. The tape will release in the Fall of this year and it will include original music by both him and myself. The title as of now is When Worlds Collide and we are both very excited about our upcoming compilation project that may feature a few surprise guest appearances. Honestly I feel like I have a serious story to tell, remember pain can only bring pleasure so all the hardships create beautiful music. The music world as a whole is definitely bubbling right now with artists dropping mix tapes and surprise albums nearly everyday. Lately I have been listening to old Diplomats, Jay Z, and even Gospel artists for some inspiration as I prepare for my upcoming project.

As far as boxing goes May 3rd, May Day, is going to include the Mayweather/Maidana super fight with Adrien Broner on the under card. June will follow with more epic fights and July will feature former champion Canelo Alvarez challenging Erislandy Lara who defeated El Perro prior to El Perro losing to Alvarez. Paulie Malignaggi recently got knocked out in the first round against up and coming welterweight Shawn Porter who many believe will become a great champion soon. Personally I like what Paulie stands for being as we both hail from Brooklyn and I believe he can still fight more. If Paulie decides to retire he can have a great career as a commentator for boxing as he's done it recently in big fights such as the Mayweather/Alvarez fight that occurred last September.

And that's all the news for now. As you guys all know I am a college student so I am currently finishing up the final stretch of the semester and looking forward to a prosperous summer. God Bless you all and thank you for continuing to support my blog.

I'm Back

Sorry I haven't posted in a while to all the fans, however college has taken it's toll on me and consumed the majority of my time as of late. Never the less I'm Back and I use these words, because they were implemented by the G.O.A.T. Michael Jordan. With NBA Playoff basketball less than a week away and playoff berths almost fully clinched there's been alot of talk surrounding the league. As an avid Laker and Knick fan I am crushed to see neither one of my teams competing in the post season however both teams need work and will begin to rebuild for the future. Stephen Curry just became the only player in NBA History to make at least 250 3- point field goals in consecutive seasons, putting him on pace to obliterate the record that Ray Allen is only increasing each game. I see the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Clippers in the Western Conference Finals and in the East I see The Heat facing off against the Brooklyn Nets if the playoff seeding allows this scenario.

In music news Jadakiss is looking to drop Top 5 Dead or Alive later this year. Meek Mill is set to drop his Sophomore album entitled Dreams Worth More Than Money in the summer. TDE is also making some noise in coherence with Rick Ross's MMG. Personally I've been doing some rapping lately over custom made beats made by one of my college buddies and I believe we've made some impressive shit. Here's a sample I'm  the second verse and the track's concept is the movie Paid In Full. We don't a chorus yet so anyone who can sing and wants their shot at stardom feel free to email me mcorbin1214@gmail.com or call me 610-739-8934... People fail to realize that I am one of the most ratable and reachable bloggers out there for the simple fact that I'm real.

Stephen Curry makes History

Recently I attended a Sixers V.S. Nets game in Philadelphia, court side of course, and I wanted my fans to get a taste of my experience along with some other goodies.... Not to stray but congratulations to Manny Pacquiao on his unanimous decision victory over Timothy Bradley giving the boxer his first career defeat.
